calendar

The world of Naramos has a calendar that is based upon the cycle of the seasons and how those seasons affect the lands upon Naramos but it is also based upon the cycle of the moon and world of Somaran and how those affect the lands as well.

The calendar has 12 different months broken up into three months per season, three for winter, three for spring, three for summer, and three for fall. The calendar is the same each year and is specifically setup that way so the races of men can know exactly which day of the week, and month, it is very easily. Knowing this information and using it can mean the difference between life or death.

Each month is broken up into four weeks of seven days apiece and each day of the week has a specific meaning based upon the cycle of the moon and its position in reference to Somaran. All months start and end on the same day with day one of the month falling on highmoon Lord Day and day twenty-eight falling on highmoon Pray day. This monthly process is repeated over and over again throughout the year with the only difference in the months being which week of the month the day of the shadow falls on.

Winter Months:

The month of the Missing Starlight’s: day of the shadow falls on the 18th.

This month is named because of the growing storms that befall upon Naramos during the start of winter each year. The great storm clouds block out many nights and you could go days between seeing any stars during this time.

The month of the Chilled Crow: day of the shadow falls on the 11th.

This month is named because of the great cold that flows across the lands and the races of men start to endure another month of hardship brought upon by the biting cold. It will be many a day before the sun relieves this burden.

The month of the Walking Dead: day of the shadow falls on the 1st and the 25th.

The month is named this not because of any undead creatures but rather because after months of hardship the races of men have endured they start to take the traits of undead. Food starts to spoil and what little food remains must be shared by many. Those unfortunate to live outside of towns and cities are left to fend for themselves and many don’t make it through this month.

Spring Months:

The month of the Vanishing Wind: day of the shadow falls on the 18th.

The month is named because the weather starts to turn better, the cold winds starts to dissipate and are slowly replaced by the warming sun. This month starts a great change that happens yet it will be awhile before the transformation is complete. Less clouds are forming and a calming hush starts to replace the blistering winds of the past several months.

The lands are spread with the lifeblood that will endure it until next they come.

Summer Months:

The month of the Forever Sky: the day of the shadow falls on the 18th.

The forever sky comes to Naramos when the rain clouds have shed their last drop and disappear just as fast as they came. With the opening of the sky the sunlight dominates the lands, spreading its warmth wherever it can. Of all of the months throughout the year this is the one that most people enjoy the most and it affords the races of men the greatest benefits.

The month of the hardening Rock: the day of the shadow falls on the 11th.

The springtime lands of Naramos start to lose their luster and the constant warmth causes the ground to harden. The springs starts to dry up and in their place lies nothing by a patch of dirt and dust. Naramos sees the climax of this season start to cause another hardship to the races of men. It will be many more months before the rains come again and until then they must bear this burden.

The month of Many Sorrow’s: the day of the shadow falls on the 4th and the 25th.

The start of many months of hardship comes to Naramos, the races of men have had little time to prepare and even less to enjoy and now the month of sorrow is upon them. All across the lands the races of men start to realize what next is to come and those not strong enough to withstand it will parish.

Fall Months:

The month of Countless Colors: the day of the shadow falls on the 18th.

The month where nature, and life in general, start to change. Everything about them will be altered in the next few months and this is the last month where they get to shine one last time. Everywhere one looks the signs show that there is a changing in the winds, one last look before all comes to an end.

The month of Last Goodbye’s: the day of the shadow falls on the 11th.

This is the last month to prepare of the coming storm, to see those you love, and to get where you need to be. The next months few months will challenge you in many ways, even down deep into your very soul, to see if you prepared for whatever comes your way. For those that make it there will be another day but for those that don’t it will be your last chance to say goodbye.

The month of endless nights: the day of the shadow falls on the 4th and the 25th.

Sunlight is a memory of past days and is replaced by the clouds that cast an ever present shadow over everything. Even the lightest of days is dark and dreary and those days pass between days of complete darkness. The races of men are trapped in a darkness that awakens the things that go bump in the night, the things that lurk where they are best left alone. With the darkness comes the shadow in all of its forms…
